Frequently Asked Questions - Faculty
Q: When do I receive my first payment for the 2006-2007 academic year?
A: Even though all Faculty members receive a contract commencing on September 1st, 2006, the first payment for this contract is 8/18/06. The fall and spring semesters are divided equally into 11 pay periods, and the first payment in the fall had to be late August, so as not to extend the 11th pay period beyond the first payroll in January.
Frequently Asked Questions - Salary Deferral for Faculty
Q: I am a 12 month Faculty member, but my salary is divided over 22 pay periods instead of 26 pay periods. Please explain.
A: All Faculty members are paid over a 10 month period regardless of status. The difference between a 12 month Faculty member and a 10 month Faculty member is that a 12 month Faculty member has a salary deferral deduction (non interest bearing) taken out of every payroll for 22 pay periods. The total amount accumulated at the end of the academic year is paid out to the Faculty member in four installments during the summer. 10 Month Faculty members do not have a salary deferral deduction, so no payment is received in the summer.
Q: How is the salary deferral deduction calculated?
A: The salary deferral deduction is calculated by dividing the academic year annual into 22 pay periods and 26 pay periods. The difference between the 22 and 26 pay period biweekly salaries is the salary deferral period amount. Click here to utilize an excel calculation, to assist you in determining your salary deferral deduction (only update the yellow fields). If you are only receiving payment for one semester out of the year and want to calculate your salary deferral. Please use the calculator for one semester in the reference library.
Q: What deductions and benefits are active during my salary deferral payments during the summer?
|
A: Health Insurance - Health Insurance deductions will continue during the summer.
Flexible Spending - Flexible spending deductions will continue during the summer.
Life Insurance - Life Insurance deductions will continue during the summer.
Retirement - Retirement deductions based on percentage will not be deducted during the summer, since it was deducted based on 100% of your biweekly salary during the academic year before the salary deferral deduction. Retirement deductions based on flat dollar amounts will continue during the summer.

Q: I am a grant funded administrative employee. My annual is not divided over 26.1 pay periods to determine my biweekly salary, like all other administrators. Please explain.
| A: Grant funded employees are paid based on funding availability on a per appointment basis. Your supervisor will submit an appointment letter indicating a per appointment salary to be paid to you based on an annual salary. For example, you may be receiving $50,000 annual, but the appointment letter will specify a $4,000 per appointment salary for 7/1/04-7/31/04(22 working days), which gives you a biweekly salary of $1,818.18, rather than $1,915.71 (divided over 26.1 pay periods).
